Czech Republic-Saudi Arabia bilateral relations:

Diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were established in 1995. In the same year the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riyadh was opened. Cooperation between the two countries soon started to develop successfully especially in the commercial section.

The framework for bilateral relations was set in consultations between the two countries’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs in March 2002. New dynamics were introduced by the state visit of the President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Havel, to the KSA in February 2001, during which the two countries signed an agreement on the establishment of a diplomatic mission of the KSA in Prague. Soon the two countries exchanged several delegations in the area of science, education, and economy.

An important landmark was the signing of the General Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in March 2002. The approval of this framework document created conditions for the signature of other agreements. Talks have recently been concluded on the text of the Agreement on the promotion and protection of investment, and negotiations have been opened on an agreement for the prevention of dual taxation.

The Czech- Saudi Business Council was established in September 2003 under the auspices of the Saudi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Czech Chamber of Commerce. The council is actively engaged in the promotion of Czech-Saudi commercial relations and meets regularly in both countries twice a year.

Visits on government and parliamentary levels especially the participation of the President of the Czech Republic ,Vaclav Havel in Jeddah Economic Forum in February 2005, opened the door for future cooperation in many areas, such as education, agriculture, scientific and technical cooperation, and especially health services, where the Czech Rupublic has an excellent reputation with Saudi patients visiting the Czech spas and rehabilitation facilities.

The Czech Republic considers the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an important partner within the framework of its bilateral relation and is ready to develop all-round bilateral contacts to benefit the population of both countries.
